1. Irrelevant Experience – If you are looking to be a sales manager, does the potential employer need to know that you have dogcatcher experience? Keep your resume focused.
2. Too Many Gaps – If your resume has more holes than Swiss cheese, you better be prepared to explain the gaps. Do not gloss over them. Do not lie.
3. Flat Resume – Your resume needs to be vibrant. Use action words and keywords to highlight your experience and background. Your resume should have some oomph.
4. Wrong Dates – Thoroughly check all the dates on your resume to make sure that they make sense. No one expects you to remember the exact date that you started a job, but you should at least know the month or the year!
5. No Accomplishments – List your career accomplishments and awards. You do not need to list every single accomplishment or award, only the major ones.
6. Spelling Errors – Not checking your resume thoroughly for typos and grammatical errors will show you in a bad light.
